Pet Portraits | Yota the Boston Terrier | My Right Hand Gal
Yota the Boston Terrier
Meet my right hand gal... This is Yota. Yes with a T.
Yota is a 7 year old Boston Terrier. I got her when she was 12 weeks old and she has been by my side ever since. We pretty much go everywhere together, except for when my adventures take me on a plane.
I grew up always having animals around. We had dogs, horses, cats, chickens, mice, hamsters, fish, bunnies, and the list goes on. When I moved out to go to school my home was empty. It was a strange feeling to not have something by my side.
It never felt right not having a dog by my side. I grew up with my old dog Maybel and she went everywhere with me for 13 years. My entire life, I was always with a dog, so not having one just wasn't working for me. So, one day, I made the decision that I just had to have a dog. No questions asked.
I have always been a big dog person, and I reaaallllyyyyy wanted a Grate Dane. I started researching various big dogs and there were so many to choose from. Now, I live in a small 700 square foot apartment and I began to wonder how that would work... having a "horse" in my living room. Honestly, I couldn't imagine anything other than a big dog. I haven never liked small dogs. They just aren't my thing.
So.... the search was on. What kind of small dog could I get, that wasn't soooo small, that didn't bark all the time, and would be something that I enjoyed? You see, ultimately I just wanted a companion. Well, my search lead me to Boston Terriers. Everything about a Boston was exactly what I wanted. They are meant to be companion dogs, they have energy but not too much energy, they aren't too small, and they aren't too big.
To make a long story short, I ended up with Yota. She was the first Boston Terrier I went to look at, and I just couldn't say no. I had to have her. I took her home in November of 2011 and she has been by my side ever since. I took her to doggy training classes (really just to force myself to take the time to train her), and the rest is history.
Yota is seriously everything I could ask for in a dog. She is well behaved, lovey, energetic when she needs to be, and lazy pretty much the rest of the time. She can hike for 14 miles in a day, or she can curl up under a blanket on the couch and be there all day.
Ever since getting her, I will probably always have a Boston by my side :)
Wishing you nothing but the best,
Bessie
