My first Blog Post! Bessie Young Photography
The story behind the creation of Bessie Young Photography - Portrait Photographer
I am so excited to get started blogging about my photography and may passion. For my first post I decided I should talk a little about me which is something I am terrible at.
Being a professional photographer has always been a dream. Day in and day out, I would imagine how wonderful it would be to be able to wake up and take pictures for my job. It seemed like such a far fetched dream, that I have lived most of my life running away from it. I thought it was something unachievable, and was going towards the goal of what I was supposed to do... you know, go to college, get your BS degree, and then land a good standing job to start your career where you work for someone else.
I took many different photography classes throughout high school and college. As I was running away from my dream of being a portrait photographer, I went to Columbia junior college and got my AA degree. I then went to Fresno State University and got my BS degree in Geomatics Engineering. Graduating was a huge accomplishment for me; however, I always had that little voice in the back of my head saying "this isn't your passion, this isn't what you truly want to do'.
When I graduated in 2010 the economy was going through a very hard time. Most companies weren't hiring, or if they were, it was a minimum wage job. I was one of the lucky ones to get a job in the corporate world. The job paid wonderfully, I had great benefits, and my schedule was your typical 9am-5pm. I am truly thankful to have been able to get this job and pay my student loans off; however, the corporate world is not good for a creative mind. Sitting in a cubical from 9-5 was draining me.
My creativity was was bursting at the seams. One day, I woke up and decided I would follow my passion. "I WILL be a portrait photographer!" And BOOM, Bessie Young Photography was created. I am not the kind of girl to take my time deciding things. I jump with a leap of faith hoping that I won't fall. The adventure has been an amazing one and I can't wait to be able to take another picture of a wonderful family or individual.
Some people ask if I regret going to school. They ask 'well don't you just feel it was a waste of your time'. My response is always NO! Going to school was one of the best decisions I made. I wouldn't change it for the world. It lead me to exactly where I am today. The decisions I have made help me appreciate where I am today.
I can't wait to get to know all of you. Please leave a comment to say hello, and don't forget to subscribe if you want to see more :)
