White Sands New Mexico
‘Purple Desert’ by Bessie Young Photography
This image is called ‘Purple Desert’.
White Sands, New Mexico is like no where I have ever been. You drive for hours through the desert of New Mexico and then all of the sudden you are in nothing but white. A sheer white out. It is astonishing. Sand dunes are typically a beige color, but not the sand dunes of White sands. These sands are so bright white that the dunes change colors as the sun changes position in the sky. If you ever go, make sure to stay the whole day. This way you can see the dunes change from a pink to an orange at sunrise. Then to pure white. As the sun begins to set hints of pinks, blues, and purples begin to start showing up on the dunes. It is like you are in a magic land far away from the things of man.
